Crude Birth Rate (CBR) and Crude Death Rate (CDR), 1981 - 2016

The crude birth rate has decreased from 16.8 per 1000 population in 1981 to 7.1 in 2002, then rebounded significantly to 13.5 in 2011 but decreased to 8.2 in 2016. The crude death rate increased marginally from 4.8 per 1000 population in 1981 to 6.4 in 2016.

Notes:
The mortality and birth statistics are based on number of "registered" deaths and births.
Figures from 1996 onwards are compiled based on the population estimates under the "resident population" approach instead of the "extended de facto" approach. Also, the 2016 Population By-census conducted from June to August 2016 provides a benchmark for revising the population figures compiled since the 2011 Population Census. Population-related figures from 2012 to 2015 have been revised accordingly.
