Government Vaccination Programme 2011-2012  Vaccination effectively protects your health  Close












The Government will provide free vaccination to the following groups of eligible persons in the year 2011/12:

Seasonal Influenza Vaccination

(Starting from 1 Nov 2011 - Free)

Persons with chronic medical problems*

  • Elderly aged 65 years# or above attending public clinics

  • In-patients under Hospital Authority (HA)

  • Paediatric out-patients with chronic medical problems or on long-term aspirin
Persons with chronic medical problems and receiving Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA)
  • Persons aged below 65 years attending public clinics
CSSA recipients
  • Persons aged 50 years# or above

  • Children between the age of 6 months and less than 6 years

  • Pregnant women
Other eligible persons
  • Health care workers working in Department of Health, HA or residential care homes for the elderly or the disabled

  • Poultry workers or workers who may be involved in poultry-culling operations

  • Pig farmers or pig-slaughtering industry personnel

  • Residents of residential care homes for the elderly or the disabled

Pneumococcal Vaccination

(Continuous throughout the year - Free)

Elderly persons aged 65 years# or above who have never received any 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (23vPPV) before (or have one dose of 23vPPV before 65 years old and more than five years earlier)

  • With chronic medical problems* attending public clinics

  • Receiving CSSA

  • Living in residential care homes

  • In-patients under HA

Eligible persons should bring along documents of proof, e.g. vaccination record, HA Outpatient Clinic appointment slip, Certificate of Comprehensive Social Security Assistance Recipients (for Medical Waivers), invitation letter from Government department, etc.

# Eligibility counted by year instead of date of birth

* People with chronic medical problems mainly refer to those who have chronic cardiovascular (except hypertension without complication), lung, metabolic or kidney disease, obesity (BMI 30 or above), who are immunocompromised, children and adolescents (aged 6 months to 18 years) on long-term aspirin therapy, and those with chronic neurological condition that can compromise respiratory function or the handling of respiratory secretions or that can increase the risk for aspiration or those who lack the ability to care for themselves.
