MC:
Welcome all to the Antibiotic Awareness Day 2014
cum Infection Control Forum
On behalf of Centre for Health Protection
I would like to extend my warm welcome to all guests
Now we are honored to have guests and professional members
from the healthcare and medical sectors this afternoon
for raising awareness of the safe use of antibiotics
Dr Ko Wing-man Secretary for Food and Health:
Since 2012
Antibiotic Awareness Day
has been marked annually in Hong Kong
on 18 November
to arouse public awareness on this important measure
to tackle antimicrobial resistance
The WHO Western Pacific Regional Office
has recently initiated a new campaign
named “I pledge”
for the community in making commitment
on judicial use of antibiotics
As a keen supporter of WHO’s initiative
We are and I am here to announce the kick-off
of the locally adapted “I Pledge” Campaign
at our Antibiotic Awareness Day ceremony today
I would like to take the lead and take the pledge today
to use antibiotics responsibly
and it is my great pleasure to have
our distinguished figures
in the healthcare systems of Hong Kong
joining the lead and signing up the “I Pledge”.
MC:
And after a countdown of 3 to 1
please kindly lay the pills on the podium
signifying the safeguard of these medicines
for future generations

Dr Raymond YUNG Co-chairman of Working Group of Collaboration between CHP & Private Hospitals on Safe User of Antibiotics & Infection Control:
There is the danger that the ignorant man
may easily underdose himself and by exposing
this microbe to non-lethal quantity of the drug
making them resistant
Dr Vincent CHENG Infection Control Officer, HKWC/Consultant (MIC), QMH:
We must put our effort, put our focus on the appropriate utilization
Nowadays, we integrate our antimicrobial stewardship program
into our clinical consultation service provided by
the clinical microbiologists in Hong Kong West Cluster
Dr WONG Tin-yau Head, Infection Control Branch, CHP:
I am very thankful to all the speakers
to come, to share with us their very insightful
comments and remarks about AMR control in their respective areas
Also, for this ceremony
I really appeal to all of you to spread the words of
“I Pledge” at your work places where you work
In the months and years to come
we will continue with this important initiative of AMR control
Thank you for all of you coming.
