The Department of Health, together with the Hong Kong College of Cardiology, started the territory-wide EatSmart Customer Community Programme in 2009, with a view to empowering members of the public with the knowledge and techniques to make healthier food choices when eating out. The programme has been receiving strong support from the community. In 2011, the programme is re-named “EatSmart Community Programme”(ECP) which aims to empower participants with knowledge and skills of healthy eating, both in home cooking and when eating out.

Four identical EatSmart Training Workshops - Talks on EatSmart@restaurant campaign, Obesity & Heart Health, Nutritional Labelling, 3 low 1 high and Low carbon diet are conducted by speakers from Department of Health (DH), the Hong Kong College of Cardiology (HKCC), Food and Environmental Hygiene Department & Hong Kong Nutrition Association (HKNA).

EatSmart Menu Design - Participants are encouraged to design an EatSmart Menu which consists of three healthy dishes for effective application of healthy eating. An adjudicating panel formed by representatives from DH, HKCC and HKNA eventually selected 15 outstanding EatSmart Menus.
