Human Swine Influenza

The World Health Organization has declared the swine flu outbreak a global pandemic. In Hong Kong, the Emergency Response Level under the Government's Preparedness Plan for Influenza Pandemic has been activated since 1 May 2009.

To fight the pandemic, we should all:

  • Be responsible: high risk groups should get vaccinated early. If influenza-like symptoms develop, put on a mask and seek medical attention as soon as possible; stay home, avoid contact with others, do not go to work or school, and defer trips.

  • Be hygienic: wash hands frequently; cover cough and sneezes; keep the environment clean and maintain good ventilation; avoid visiting crowded or poorly-ventilated places.

  • Be vigilant: pay attention to advice and guidelines issued by the Government with respect to provision of medical services, travelling, border health control, suspension of schools and public events
