Government Vaccination Programme (GVP) 2017/18  

The GVP 2017/18 will provide the following types of free vaccination to eligible Hong Kong residents: 

A) Seasonal influenza vaccination (SIV) to eligible groups; and
B) Pneumococcal vaccination (PV) to eligible elderly aged 65 years or above

About the programme

The GVP 2017/18 has been launched on 25 October 2017. Various eligible groups will be covered by phases. 

The arrangement for some of the eligible groups are appended below (The patient should receive vaccination during follow-up if it is within programme period). For more detailed information, please refer to "About the programme"

 

Seasonal influenza vaccination arrangement for elderly living in the community

Starting from 25 October 2017, elderly aged 65 years or above who are patients of the Hospital Authority or the Department of Health can receive free seasonal influenza vaccination at their follow-up clinics.

Starting from 6 November 2017, all elderly aged 65 or above can receive free seasonal influenza vaccination in the following clinics / centres:

 

Pneumococcal vaccination arrnagement for elderly living the community

Starting from 25 October 2017, eligible elderly aged 65 years or above with high-risk conditions who have not received pneumococcal vaccination, attending clinics of the Hospital Authority or the Department of Health can receive a free dose of 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) at their follow-up clinics, and a free dose of 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (23vPPV) one year after.

For eligible elderly patients aged 65 years or above with high-risk conditions who have only received 23vPPV, they will receive a free dose of PCV13 mop-up vaccination by phases; while for those who have only received PCV13, they will receive a free dose of 23vPPV mop-up vaccination by phases:

  • patients of Department of Health will receive mop-up vaccination starting from 25 October 2017
  • patients of Hospital Authority will receive mop-up vaccination starting from late March 2018 (to be announced in due course)

 

Seasonal influenza vaccination arrangement for persons with intellectual disability and persons receiving Disability Allowance living in the community

Starting from 25 October 2017, persons with intellectual disability and persons receiving Disability Allowance who are existing patients of public clinics and hospitals can receive free vaccination during their follow-up or stay in hospitals.

 

Seasonal influenza vaccination arrangement for children receiving the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) or holding valid Certificate for Waiver of Medical Charges issued by the Social Welfare Department

Starting from 25 October 2017, Hong Kong residents aged between 6 months and under 6 years can go to the Maternal and Child Health Centres (MCHC) under the Department of Health; Hong Kong residents aged 6 to under 12 years can go to the Student Heallth Service Centres (SHSC) under the Department of Health, to receive free vaccination.
