Residents of Residential Care Homes for the Elderly or the Persons with Disabilities

The Scientific Committee on Vaccine Preventable Diseases recommends Residents of Residential Care Homes for the Elderly or for Persons with Disabilities to receive the seasonal influenza vaccination to protect from infection and its complications. The Scientific Committee also recommends persons of age 65 or above to receive pneumococcal vaccination.

Residential Care Home Vaccination Programme

Under the Residential Care Home Vaccination Programme, residents of Residential Care Homes for the Elderly (RCHE) or Residential Care Homes for Persons with Disabilities (RCHD) are eligible for free influenza vaccination; Residents of RCHE and residents of RCHD who are aged 65 years or above who have never received pneumococcal vaccine before are eligible to receive a single dose of 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13), followed by a single dose of 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (23vPPV) 1 year later.

Residents of RCHE and residents of RCHD who are aged 65 years or above who have already received 23vPPV, a single dose of PCV13 should be administered 1 year after previous 23vPPV vaccination.
