The Scientific Committee on Vaccine Preventable Diseases (SCVPD) recommends Residents of Residential Care Homes (such as Residential Care Homes for the Elderly or Residential Care Homes for Persons with Disabilities) to receive seasonal influenza vaccination to protect from seasonal influenza and its complications. The SCVPD also recommends persons of age 65 or above to receive pneumococcal vaccination to enhance their protection against pneumococcal infection.
Under Residential Care Home Vaccination Programme, residents of Residential Care Homes for the Elderly (RCHE) or Residential Care Homes for Persons with Disabilities (RCHD) are eligible for free seasonal influenza vaccination. Residents of RCHE and residents aged 65 years or above of RCHD are eligible to receive one dose of free 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) and one dose of free 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (23vPPV).
