  2. Does the subsidised person need to pay any fee?
  3. Will all enrolled doctors charge the same rate?
  4. Is the difference in service fees among clinics related to different types of influenza vaccine? Are the more expensive vaccines more effective?
  1. How much is the IVSS subsidy?

In 2008/09, the subsidy is HK$80 for each dose of influenza vaccine, for a maximum of 2 doses.

  2. Does the subsidised person need to pay any fee?

The enrolled doctor will charge the eligible person a vaccination service fee after deducting the amount subsidised by Government. Enrolled doctors are required to display the pricing information on influenza vaccination in the clinic. The Government will also publicise the fee through IVSS website (www.ivss.gov.hk).

  3. Will all enrolled doctors charge the same rate?

The Government will subsidise HK$80 for each injection, but the service fee charged by each doctor may vary. Enrolled doctors are required to display the pricing information on influenza vaccination in the clinic. The Government will also publicise the fee through IVSS website (www.ivss.gov.hk).

  4. Is the difference in service fees among clinics related to different types of influenza vaccine? Are the more expensive vaccines more effective?

Enrolled doctors are free to purchase different brands of influenza vaccines that have been registered in Hong Kong. They can also decide their service fees according to their clinics' operation. In other words, the vaccine cost is not the sole determinant of the service fee. In Hong Kong, the registration and import of vaccines are subject to regulation by the Pharmacy and Poisons Ordinance to ensure their safety, quality and efficacy. There is no clinical evidence that any particular brand of influenza vaccine is more effective than others.
