In Hong Kong, cervical cancer ranks as the fifth commonest cancer and the eighth leading cause of cancer deaths among females.
In 2001, there were 438 new cases and 128 deaths due to cervical cancer.
To increase public awareness and knowledge on cervical screening and women's participation in the Cervical Screening Programme, a series of roving exhibition are being organized in different districts. All members of the public are welcome.
The exhibition, organized by the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH), will include display of information on prevention and screening of cervical cancer, games, VCD show, distribution of booklets and pamphlets.
The Cervical Screening Programme was launched by CHP on March 8, 2004 in collaboration with other service providers in the public and private sectors.
The Programme aims to achieve higher screening coverage in the target population, thereby reducing incidence and mortality of cervical cancer and improving the quality of life of women in Hong Kong.
The public can also visit the website,
http://www.cervicalscreening.gov.hk for more information on cervical screening.
