The Department of Health (DH) today (August 25) advised a kindergarten-cum-child care centre in Mong Kok to suspend class for seven days starting tomorrow to stop the possible spread of human swine influenza (HSI).

The advice was made following the outbreak of human swine influenza in the morning and afternoon sessions of Victoria (Harbour Green) Kindergarten involving 29 children aged between two and four, a spokesman for the department said.

Investigations showed that seven boys and 22 girls in the kindergarten developed influenza-like illness symptoms since August 15.

Laboratory results showed that eight children were confirmed to have infected with HSI. One of them was admitted to hospital in stable condition.

The department had visited the institution and advised staff on infection control measures. The institution is put under medical surveillance.

The spokesman called on parents to pay attention to the health condition of their children, and to remind them to observe good personal and environmental hygiene.
