Human Swine Influenza Vaccination Subsidy Scheme

The Government provides human swine influenza vaccine to five target groups of a combined total of about two million people. To facilitate the target groups to receive human swine influenza vaccine, the Government will subsidise the following target groups HK$129 per dose of HSI vaccination (HK$79 vaccine cost plus HK$50 injection cost) received from private doctors enrolled in the Human Swine Influenza Vaccination Subsidy Scheme (HSIVSS):-

(a) Persons with chronic illnesses* and pregnant women;
(b) children between the age of 6 months and less than 6 years; or attending a kindergarten or child care centre in Hong Kong; or
(c) elderly persons aged 65 years or above.

* Persons with chronic illnesses mainly refer to those who have chronic cardiovascular (except hypertension without complication) and lung disease, severe obesity (BMI≥30), metabolic or kidney disease, immunodeficiency, chronic neurological condition that can compromise respiratory function, handling of respiratory secretions or that can increase the risk of aspiration, or those who lack the ability to care for themselves, and children and adolescents (aged 6 months to 18 years) on long-term aspirin therapy.

To be eligible for subsidised human swine influenza vaccinations, the recipients have to be Hong Kong residents. Eligible recipients will pay a discounted fee to the enrolled private doctors for vaccination service. The Government will reimburse the enrolled doctors.

Persons belonging to these target groups may also choose to receive free vaccinations provided by the Government. For details, please refer to Human Swine Influenza Vaccination Programme.
