CHP launches on-line notification of infectious diseases
2005-03-01
The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health today (March 1) launched an on-line reporting system to boost the efficiency of the existing surveillance system on infectious diseases.

Entitled ‘CENO On-line’, the system enables doctors to report infectious diseases to the CHP through the internet, said Dr Thomas Tsang, Consultant (Community Medicine) of the CHP.

"CENO On-line embodies our commitment of real time surveillance," Dr Tsang said.

By using CENO On-line, doctors can report to the CHP statutorily notifiable diseases, other communicable diseases of public health concern, poisoning related to heavy metal or traditional Chinese medicine, suspected institutional outbreaks and unusual clustering of communicable diseases.

CENO On-line provides a faster and more convenient way for doctors to report infectious diseases. It also gives doctors feedback about the status of their notifications, Dr Tsang said.

The system is built on a securely designed platform. Each doctor has been provided an individual password to log on the system to ensure safe transmission of patient information.

"We hope doctors will find the system useful and we welcome their feedback to make it better," Dr Tsang added.
