2004-06-30
The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health today (June 30) launched its on-line bi-weekly on communicable diseases.

The first issue of the Communicable Disease Watch, published via CHP's website (http://www.chp.gov.hk), contains updated information on infectious diseases.

The bi-weekly will be published on alternate Wednesdays.

A CHP spokesman said: "The publication aims at providing the public and healthcare professionals with up-to-date infectious disease news and knowledge relevant to Hong Kong. It is also an indication of CHP's commitment in responsive risk communication to address the growing community interest on infectious diseases."

In its first issue, the bulletin covered the period from June 13 to June 26 and featured two outbreak reports. The first report was an update on the two local cases of Japanese encephalitis confirmed on June 10 and June 24. The second article depicted the successful control of an evolving Hand-Foot-Mouth Disease outbreak in a nursery in Kwai Fong through stringent public health measures.

Other regular topics include summary of selected notifiable diseases and outbreak notifications, highlights of outbreaks, communicable diseases news and risk communication digest.
