Both Android and iOS versions of “HKeIC” mobile app would be retired from 3rd December 2018. Users may retrieve the apps contents (i.e. Hand Hygiene and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)) from this page, and in the Infection Control Corner of CHP website.

Hand Hygiene

Perform hand hygiene

Apply a palmful (3ml) alcohol-based handrub for performing hand hygiene.

PPE Donning

Perform Hand Hygiene 1. Perform hand hygiene
Put on Surgical Mask             a) Choose the appropriate mask size;	(1) Coloured side should face outwards; (2) pleats downwards; (3) uppermost nose strip.             b) Position the elastic bands around both ears. ;             c) Mold nose strip over nose bridge.             d) Surgical mask should fully cover mouth, nose and chin, and fit snugly over the face. 2a.   • Choose the appropriate mask size
  • (1)  Coloured side should face outwards; (2) pleats downwards; (3) uppermost nose strip.
  • Position the elastic bands around both ears.
  • Mold nose strip over nose bridge.
  • Surgical mask should fully cover mouth, nose and chin, and fit snugly over the face.
Put on N95 respirator             a) Select the appropriate N95 respirator model according to “Fit Test” result.;             b) Position the respirator to cover mouth, nose and chin.;             c) Position the upper strap on head, and then pull the bottom strap below ears.;             d) Place 2 fingers of both hands at the top of the nose strip and mold the nosepiece to the shape of your nose using both hands.;             e) Perform “Seal Check” every time when respirator is donned to ensure an adequate seal.

2b. Put on N95 respirator

  • Select the appropriate N95 respirator model according to “Fit Test” result.
  • Position the respirator to cover mouth, nose and chin.
  • Position the upper strap on head, and then pull the bottom strap below ears.
  • Place 2 fingers of both hands at the top of the nose strip and mold the nosepiece to the shape of your nose using both hands.
  • Perform “Seal Check” every time when respirator is donned to ensure an adequate seal.        
Put on Eye Protection (Face shield /goggle) Can choose face shield /goggle with anti-fog agent applied if required.; Face shield             a) Adjust strap for optimum fit (for certain models).

Put on Disposable Cap             a) Cover hair and both ears inside the cap.;             b)	Cover the part of the face shield worn over forehead region with cap.

Put on Gown             a) Unfold the gown; lift the gown up to prevent it from touching the floor.;             b) Cover users’ back entirely with gown.;             c) Tie gown collar knot followed by the waist knot. DO NOT tie waist knot at the front.

  • Unfold the gown; lift the gown up to prevent it from touching the floor.

Put on Gloves             a) Use appropriate sized gloves.;             b) Extend gloves over gown cuffs.

PPE Doffing

Remove gloves             a) When removing gloves, do not touch the external surface of the gloves by bare hands;             b) Grasp the cuff edge of the glove with opposite gloved hand while removing it. Pull the hand slowly and peel off the glove.;             c) Hold removed glove in gloved hand.;             d) Slide fingers of ungloved hand under the remaining glove at wrist and peel it off gently.;             e) Discard gloves properly in lidded rubbish bin

Remove Gown a)Untie gown’s neck string knot or adhesive strip.;             b) Hold untied neck string or areas of adhesive strip, peel down the gown to below shoulder level.;             c) Untie waist string knot.;             d) Keep arms straight, remove sleeves one by one, hold gown by hands.;             e) Avoid letting the external surface of the gown to touch the body.;             f) Turn the outer contaminated side inward and then roll it into a bundle. Do not touch the contaminated outer surface of the gown.;             g) Dispose gown properly in lidded rubbish bin.

  • Hold untied neck string or areas of adhesive strip, peel down the gown to below shoulder level.
  • Untie waist string knot.
  • Keep arms straight, remove sleeves one by one, hold gown by hands.
  • Avoid letting the external surface of the gown to touch the body.
  • Turn the outer contaminated side inward and then roll it into a bundle. Do not touch the contaminated outer surface of the gown.
  • Dispose gown properly in lidded rubbish bin.

  • Tilt your head forward slightly.
  • Use both hands to grab bottom strap, pull it over your head.
  • Then grab upper strap. Keep tension on the upper strap against your head, remove respirator forward from your face.
  • DO NOT touch surface of respirator.
  • Dispose N95 respirator properly in lidded rubbish bin.
