Basic Infection Control for Property Management - Chapter 8: Waste Handling

Once the infection is confirmed to be a novel / severe emerging infectious disease
the Centre for Health Protection will notify the concerned unit(s) to collect the waste
What should we do if it is not?
If it is not, we can handle it in the same manner as other municipal waste
Once it is confirmed to be a novel / severe emerging infectious disease
Wear a new pair of gloves
and put the waste into a clinical waste bag with a pre-printed biohazard label
"Swan-neck" method of sealing should be used
Each clinical waste bag must be affixed with a biohazard caution tag
Use black indelible marker to write down clearly the waste producer
i.e. the name of our shopping centre
Wait for licensed clinical waste collector
to deliver the waste to the licensed disposal facility by designated vehicle
After all procedures are finished, remember to clean your hands with liquid soap and water
Kit, you are great
