Chapter 2: Understanding Multi-drug Resistant Organisms (MDROs) Session 2

Session  2: Infection Control Measures

Visitor:

If pathogens are everywhere, then there is nothing we can do!

Host:

Not really. The first step to prevent infection is to have a strong defence and have good infection control measures.

First, we should maintain good personal hygiene and keep our hands clean. We should avoid sharing personal items or coming in contact with any excreta, wounds, secretions or contaminated objects directly.

Besides, we have to maintain environmental hygiene by cleansing the furniture and surroundings with 1 part of 5.25% household bleach to 99 parts of water regularly.

Metallic surfaces will require 70% alcohol to clean.

Regarding infection control measures, we need to observe the Standard Precautions all the time and implement some enhanced precautions when necessary That is the Modified Contact Precautions.

In addition, we have to use antibiotics properly. When symptoms of infection are detected, we should seek medical advice immediately and follow the doctor’s prescription.
