Nowadays there are many contraceptive methods available, such as condoms, intrauterine device and contraceptive pills. You can ask your doctor which method is most suitable for you and your partner. Periodic abstinence (safety period) means avoidance of sexual intercourse during the time of ovulation, which is usually at 14 days before the next menstruation. However, this method is difficult to apply since the menstrual cycles are not always regular. Extracorporal ejaculation is also not an ideal contraceptive method. Prior to ejaculation, the penis may secrete fluid containing sperms enough to make a female pregnant. Condoms are much safer and convenient. If used properly, they are a good way of contraception and are effective in preventing sexually transmitted diseases. For more information, please go to Safer Sex.
