In Hong Kong, the life expectancy at birth increased from 67.8 years for males and 75.3 years for females in 1971 to 83.3# years and 88.7# years respectively in 2025.  The life expectancy at birth in 2022 should be interpreted with care as the figures are affected by exceptionally high mortality rates in 2022 during the COVID-19 epidemic.  Nevertheless, the life expectancy at birth of both males and females at birth rebounded in 2023.  The life expectancy at birth of Hong Kong in 2025 was among the highest in the world.
