Question

Will diabetic patients recover from their illness?

I found myself feeling very hungry and eating a lot in these two to three days. Is that a symptom of diabetes?

Answer

Diabetes mellitus is a common chronic disease in Hong Kong . About one tenth of the local population are sufferers of the disease. Diabetic patients in general cannot recover completely from their illness. They need to control their blood sugar level by watching their diet, doing exercise and maintain their body weight. Some of them may need regular medications. All these help to maintain their blood sugar level at normal readings, which in turn help them to avoid complications.

The usual symptoms of diabetes mellitus include frequent thirst and urination, fatigue easily and weight loss. However, some sufferers may have no symptoms until the onset of complications like visual damage, heart disease and stroke. If you are in doubt, you should tell your doctor.
