How much fruit and vegetables is being consumed worldwide?

The World Health Organization recommends a minimum daily consumption of 400 grams of fruit and vegetables. According to the data of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, people across the globe consume fruit and vegetables at only about two-thirds of the WHO recommended a daily minimum total of 400 grams daily.


How much fruit and vegetables is being consumed locally?

Report of The Population Health Survey 2020-22 conducted by the Department of Health revealed that:

  • Daily fruit consumption was reported by 49.4% of persons aged 15 or above, with 54.5% of females and 43.6% of males. 13.6% (13.9% of females and 13.4% males) of persons reported that they ate two or more servings of fruit per day, the estimated mean number of servings of fruit intake was 1.2 per day.
  • Daily vegetables consumption was reported by 78.0% of persons aged 15 or above, with 81.2% of females and 74.5% of males. 25.1% (25.3% of females and 24.9% males) of persons reported that they ate two or more servings of vegetables per day, the estimated mean number of servings of vegetables per day was 1.3.

Overall, only 2.0% reported consuming an average of five or more servings of fruit and vegetables per day, with 2.2% for females and 1.8% for males. For more information, please refer to the link below:
