The Vaccination Subsidy Scheme (VSS) 2018/19 has been launched on 10 October 2018. Starting from this year, the Government has extended the eligible groups for subsidised influenza vaccination to include Hong Kong residents aged 50 to 64 years. Other eligible Hong Kong residents include pregnant women, elderly aged 65 years or above, children aged between 6 months and under 12 years, persons with intellectual disability and persons receiving Disability Allowance. Eligible persons are entitled to receive subsidised influenza vaccination from private doctors enrolled in the VSS 2018/19, the subsidy has been increased to $210 per dose of seasonal influenza vaccination. In Hong Kong, influenza is usually more common in periods from January to March/ April and from July to August. It takes about 2 weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body. Eligible elderly aged 65 years or above can also get subsidy for pneumococcal vaccination (available throughout the year). In VSS 2018/19, the subsidy level of 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (23vPPV) has been increased to $250 per dose; subsidy level of 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) is $730 per dose.
